Sachin Yadav Misses World Championships Podium by Just 40cm.

India’s Sachin Yadav delivered the performance of his career at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo but agonisingly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the men’s javelin final.

Competing in his maiden world final, the 25-year-old hurled the spear to a personal best of 86.27m with his opening attempt. For much of the contest, that distance looked good enough for bronze, but in the closing stages he was pushed to fourth—just 40 centimetres short of the podium.

While Yadav shone, two-time Olympic medallist and defending world champion Neeraj Chopra endured a disappointing outing. Struggling to find rhythm, Chopra could only manage 84.03m and finished eighth. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also underperformed, placing 10th, leaving Yadav as the top South Asian finisher on the night.

The medals went to former Olympic and world champions. Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott claimed gold with 88.16m, Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured silver with 87.38m, and the United States’ Curtis Thompson edged Yadav for bronze with 86.67m.

India had entered four throwers, though Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh bowed out in qualification, finishing 28th and 30th.

Rising Star
Born in Khekra, Uttar Pradesh, in 1999, Sachin Yadav began as a fast bowler before switching to javelin at 19. He first crossed the 80m mark at the 2024 National Open Athletics Championships and has since risen rapidly, winning the Federation Cup, the National Games, and silver at the 2025 Asian Championships with 85.16m.

His career-best 86.27m in Tokyo confirmed his growing stature and hinted at a bright future. Though the medal slipped away by the narrowest of margins, Yadav’s fearless display marked him as India’s next big javelin hope beyond Neeraj Chopra.
