Actor Rajpal Yadav has landed in legal trouble after surrendering at Tihar Jail on February 5 in connection with a long-running cheque bounce and loan default case. The Delhi High Court had dismissed his plea seeking additional time in the matter.
The case reportedly dates back to 2010 following the commercial failure of his film Ata Pata Laapata, after which unpaid dues are said to have accumulated to nearly ₹9 crore.
Industry extends support
Amid his financial and legal difficulties, several members of the film fraternity have reportedly stepped forward to offer support.
In a conversation with SCREEN, Rajpal Yadav’s manager Goldie revealed that actors including Sonu Sood, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have reached out. He also mentioned filmmaker David Dhawan, Ratan Nain and actor Varun Dhawan among those who have expressed their willingness to help.
“A lot of people have reached out to support Rajpal Yadav. The industry has stood behind him like a rock. Rajpal deeply appreciates this gesture,” Goldie said, adding that while commitments have been made, financial arrangements take time to materialise.
Earlier, actor Gurmeet Choudhary and director Anees Bazmee were also reported to have extended their support.
Bail hearing scheduled
Goldie further stated that Rajpal Yadav’s bail application has already been filed and a hearing is scheduled for February 12. The team is hopeful of a positive outcome. “We are hopeful that he will be granted bail and released. We will be able to share more details after the hearing,” he said.
Meanwhile, music director Rao Inderjeet Yadav has publicly pledged ₹1.11 crore towards assistance. Politician Tej Pratap Yadav has reportedly committed ₹11 lakh, while actor and critic KRK has said he would contribute ₹10 lakh.
