The Indian equity benchmark indices pared losses from day’s low as Relinace Industries and Coal India share prices supported.
The Nifty50 was trading 0.60 per cent or 141.55 points down at 23,724.55, and the Sensex was trading 0.56 per cent or 428.6 points down at 76,435.10.
Coal India, Adani Enterprises, NTPC, and Power Grid Corporation of India were the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.
Broader markets also moved away from their day’s low. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap indices were trading 0.58 per cent and 0.88 per cent down, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Auto was the worst-performing sectoral index. The Nifty Consumer Durables and the Nifty Realty also underperformed.
Meanwhile, the Nifty Oil and Gas index outperformed.
Brent crude jumped nearly 9.16 per cent to $101.53 per barrel in Asia session as investors assessed whether the emergency oil releases could offset the supply interruption due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
Brent’s May future contract was trading 8.33 per cent higher at $99.62 per barrel.
