Sensex rises 250 pts, Nifty above 25,700; IT, PSU Bank shares rally, metal slips

Indian stock markets were volatile in trade on Tuesday, as investors turned to stock-specific moves amid a thin trade in Asia.  

At 12 PM, BSE Sensex was trading at 83,528.66, up 251.5 points or 0.3 per cent and NSE Nifty50 quoted 25,732.65, up 50 points or 0.19 per cent. In the Sensex basket, Infosys, ITC, Asian Paints, HCL Tech, and BEL were leading the gains, trading higher by up to 3 per cent. In contrast, Eternal, Tata Steel, RIL, M&M, Power Grid, and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the top laggards, trading lower by up to 2 per cent.

 In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and SmallCap were trading 0.10 per cent and 0.7 per cent higher, respectively.  

Among sectors, the Nifty IT index jumped over 2 per cent, followed Nifty PSU Bank. Stocks from these sectors helped the markets recoup losses. On the downside, the Nifty Metal index was down 1 per cent.

IPO Today

Fractal Industries initial public offering has entered its second day. On the first day, the IPO was subscribed 1.65 times. The IPO will close for subscription on Wednesday. The tentative listing is on February 23.
