Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 Returns to Airport After Cabin Panels Fall During Emergency Landing

A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 flying from Mashhad to Kermanshah in Iran was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff on Tuesday following a technical problem that prompted the crew to make an emergency landing at Mashhad Airport.

The incident became particularly alarming when portions of the aircraft’s cabin ceiling lining came loose and fell into the passenger compartment. Video footage released by Iranian news agency Akharin Khabar showed several panels dropping from the ceiling, exposing parts of the structure above the cabin.

Despite the disruption, no passengers or crew members were injured. All occupants were safely evacuated after the aircraft returned to the airport.

According to UOL, citing the Rajavi Khorasan provincial government, the incident occurred at approximately 5:39 pm local time. Sepehran Airlines spokesman Hassan Jafari said passengers disembarked safely and were later placed on another flight to continue their journey to Kermanshah.

Mashhad Airport’s runway was temporarily shut while the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the incident were inspected. Operations resumed later the same day.

Tyre Failure Reported, But Cause Not Confirmed

Early reports indicated that one of the aircraft’s landing gear tyres may have burst during the takeoff roll. The suspected failure may have led to damage and strong vibrations, prompting the pilots to declare an emergency and return to Mashhad.

However, officials have not yet confirmed that a tyre failure was responsible for the incident. The precise nature of the technical problem remains under investigation.

Another Sepehran Boeing 737 Incident in August

Tuesday’s emergency landing follows another incident involving a Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 at Mashhad Airport last month.

On August 25, Boeing 737-500 flight IS-4310, travelling from Tehran to Mashhad with 127 people aboard, veered off the runway after landing. Its nose landing gear collapsed, and the aircraft eventually stopped after moving from runway 13L onto runway 13R.

Passengers and crew escaped unharmed, and Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization opened an investigation into the incident.

The latest episode has drawn renewed attention after videos of the damaged cabin ceiling circulated widely online. Although no injuries were reported, the two recent incidents involving Sepehran Airlines aircraft at Mashhad have prompted scrutiny of aircraft maintenance and operational safety.

Investigators are expected to establish the exact cause of Tuesday’s emergency and determine whether any mechanical failure contributed to the incident.
