Shashi Tharoor Flags ‘Very Serious’ Situation in Iran, MEA Advises Indians to Avoid Travel.

Amid ongoing protests in Iran, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday called the situation “very serious” and expressed concern over the lack of reliable information. Speaking to ANI, Tharoor, who chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, said the internet blackout in Iran is making it difficult to assess the scale of unrest.

“It looks very serious. But we are not getting much information out of Iran… My understanding is that things are grim. Around 3,000 protesters have apparently been killed,” he said, warning that the coming days will be critical for the Khamenei regime.

MEA Issues Travel Advisory

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has urged Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Iran until further notice, following earlier warnings issued on January 5.

Airspace Closure

Iran extended its airspace closure on Thursday without explanation, disrupting flights along a key East-West route. The protests, now in their 20th day, began over record inflation and a steep fall in the national currency but have spread nationwide, affecting over 280 locations.

Tharoor’s warning comes as the situation in Iran continues to escalate, with political stability and public safety increasingly under threat.
