Congress Convenes High-Level CWC Meet; Tharoor, Siddaramaiah Among Key Attendees.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday chaired a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the party headquarters, Indira Bhawan, in New Delhi.

The session saw participation from senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Harish Rawat, former MP Salman Khurshid, and MPs Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Rajeev Shukla, and Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor’s attendance drew attention amid reports of his recent statements diverging from party lines.

Describing the meeting as “very important,” Harish Rawat criticised the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from MGNREGA, calling it “completely unacceptable.” M. Veerappa Moily noted that the CWC would discuss “very important issues concerning the nation.”

According to sources, deliberations are expected to focus on strategies against the VB G-RAM-G Act, alongside discussions on the National Herald case, the Aravalli region, and other pressing political matters. Outside the AICC headquarters, a small group of protesters raised slogans demanding Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara be appointed the next Chief Minister. Their posters highlighted the need for greater Dalit representation, calling for a Dalit leader to assume Karnataka’s top post.

The meeting reflects the Congress party’s ongoing focus on internal strategy, national issues, and leadership priorities ahead of upcoming political challenges.
