Sheikh Hasina Claims Yunus Pushing Bangladesh Toward Pakistan, Speaks Positively of India

Bangladesh’s relationship with Pakistan remains sensitive because of the legacy of 1971.

How do you assess the interim government’s recent outreach to Islamabad, and do you see any risks for Bangladesh’s internal stability or foreign policy balance?

Sheikh Hasina:
History cannot be separated from diplomacy, especially in South Asia. Bangladesh emerged through immense sacrifice, and any engagement with Pakistan must be approached with caution, clarity, and national consensus. What concerns many Bangladeshis today is that these initiatives are being taken without democratic legitimacy or transparent objectives.

Foreign policy should strengthen sovereignty and regional stability, not serve as a tool for short-term political survival. When diplomacy is conducted without mandate or experience, it creates confusion at home and questions abroad. Bangladesh has traditionally benefited from steady, principle-based relations with its neighbours, and departing from that approach risks unnecessary instability.
