Alyssa Healy Announces Shock Retirement from International Cricket.
Australia captain Alyssa Healy has revealed she will retire from international cricket after the upcoming home series against India, ending a glittering 16-year career. The 35-year-old made the announcement on the Willow Talk podcast, where she is a regular contributor.
“It’s with mixed emotions that the India series will be my last for Australia,” Healy said. “I’m still passionate about playing, but the competitive edge that has driven me for years has started to fade. I feel it’s the right time to step away.”
She described the mental and physical challenges of elite sport, noting that injuries and the grind of top-level cricket had taken their toll:
“The last few years have been more mentally draining than anything else. It’s getting harder to keep pushing myself at the same level.”
A Career of Records and Achievements
Healy finishes with nearly 300 international matches and over 7,000 runs across formats. Behind the stumps, she recorded 275 dismissals since her debut in 2010.
She served as vice-captain under Meg Lanning for most of her career and became full-time captain in 2023, leading Australia to a historic 16-0 series win over England. She has been part of eight ICC World Cup-winning campaigns, holds the record for the highest individual score in a World Cup final, and has the most T20I dismissals by a wicketkeeper. Her accolades also include the Belinda Clark Award (2019), two ICC T20I Player of the Year awards, and a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Her final international match will be the one-off Test against India in Perth from March 6–9, giving her a fitting farewell on home soil.
WPL Snub Adds to the Surprise
Healy’s retirement comes just months after a shock Women’s Premier League 2026 auction snub, where she went unsold despite expectations. She had previously played for UP Warriorz in the first two seasons and missed the 2025 edition due to injury.
After 16 years at the top, Alyssa Healy steps away as one of the most influential wicketkeeper-batters in women’s cricket, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, consistency, and record-breaking performances.
