16-Year-Old National Basketball Player Dies in Freak Court Accident in Rohtak.

A 16-year-old national-level basketball player, Hardik Rathi, tragically died in Rohtak, Haryana, after a basketball pole fell on his chest during practice. The accident occurred in Lakhan Majra yesterday, reportedly because the pole was not securely fixed. Hardik’s friends rushed to help him, but he could not be saved.

Chilling CCTV footage shows Hardik practising alone on the court. He completes a jump from the three-point line and touches the basket — a routine drill to improve scoring. On his second attempt, he grabs the rim, and the pole unexpectedly uproots, toppling onto him. Friends immediately lifted the pole, but the injuries proved fatal.

Hardik had recently been selected for the national team and had returned from a training camp. His father, Sandeep Rathi, had enrolled him and his younger brother at a local sports club to nurture their talent. Police have recovered the body and handed it over to the family after post-mortem procedures, and a case has been registered.

Shockingly, a similar incident occurred recently in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. Fifteen-year-old Aman, a Class 10 student and school sports medalist, died after a basketball pole fell on him during practice. Aman sustained internal injuries and passed away at Rohtak’s PGIMS. His family has accused doctors at the hospital of negligence.

The consecutive deaths of two promising young basketball players have raised serious concerns over public sports infrastructure and maintenance in Haryana, a state known for producing some of India’s top athletes.
