Red Fort Blast: Dr Umar Suspected of Using ‘Shoe Bomber’ Tactic.

Investigators probing the Red Fort blast that killed 12 people and injured several others believe Jaish-linked suicide bomber Dr Umar un Nabi may have used a “shoe bomber” method to trigger the explosion.

A shoe recovered from under the driver’s seat of Umar’s i20 contained a metal-like device, which is suspected to have been used to initiate the blast. Traces of the highly volatile explosive TATP, known as the “mother of Satan” for its extreme sensitivity, were found on both the shoe and the tyre. Additional explosive material was also discovered under the rear seat, suggesting a larger stash of explosives in the car.

Officials say the findings bear similarities to the December 2001 Richard Reid case, where the “shoe bomber” attempted to detonate TATP hidden in his shoes aboard a flight from Paris to Miami.

The probe has also uncovered financial links, with Rs 20 lakh reportedly routed to the terror module through arrested doctor Shaheen, who allegedly facilitated funding for the Delhi attack. Sources revealed that the Jaish module had planned twin attacks under the codename ‘D-6’. Plan A, which targeted multiple cities on the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary, was foiled, while Plan B was executed in Delhi.

Agencies continue to investigate, reconstructing the precise mechanism used in the blast and tracing the network behind the attack.
