Siddaramaiah Says Politics Isn’t Permanent, Aide Stresses Leaders Must Step Aside Eventually.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a cryptic remark on Tuesday regarding leadership speculation, telling Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna after a breakfast meeting with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar that he had “never really thought about” such discussions.

“Whatever happens, let it happen. Is politics my father’s property? Politics is not permanent,” Siddaramaiah said, signaling that he is not concerned about ongoing chatter over the Chief Minister’s post.

Public Works Minister Sathish Jarkiholi echoed the sentiment, noting that no political post is permanent and any leadership change depends entirely on the Congress High Command. “At some point, we have to step aside. Even during this term, changes can happen if the High Command decides,” he said.

Jarkiholi also dismissed speculation about a Dalit Chief Minister or a cabinet reshuffle, stating that such decisions rest with senior leaders. On the rumored ‘3+2’ power-sharing formula, he added that the party is awaiting guidance from Delhi.

The remarks come amid rising political buzz following the May 2023 power-sharing agreement claimed by Shivakumar’s camp, under which he would assume the Chief Minister’s post midway through the term. Both leaders, however, continue to insist there is no power struggle and that the party remains united.
