Sikandar Raza Leads Zimbabwe to 67-Run Rout of Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza starred with both bat and ball as his all-round performance powered his side to a commanding 67-run victory over Sri Lanka in Match 2 of the T20I Tri-Series at Rawalpindi on Thursday, 22 November.
Batting first, Zimbabwe posted 162/8 in 20 overs. Early wickets of Tadiwanashe Marumani (10) and Brendan Taylor (11) put pressure on the team, but a 61-run partnership between Raza (47 off 32) and Brian Bennett (49 off 42) steadied the innings. Bennett was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga, while Raza fell to Dushmantha Chameera.
Sri Lanka’s chase never took off. Dasun Shanaka (34) was the only notable contributor as his side collapsed to 95 all out. Brad Evans led Zimbabwe’s bowling with 3/9, supported by Richard Ngarva (2/15) and Raza (1/23).
The win marked Zimbabwe’s third T20I triumph over Sri Lanka and their largest victory margin against a full-member side. Raza, named Player of the Match for the 19th time, now trails only Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh (22) in career awards.
With this emphatic win, Zimbabwe climbed to the top of the points table with two wins and a net run rate of +1.471, while Sri Lanka remain winless. Pakistan sits second with two points.
