Six Explosions Hit Delhi-NCR on December 6; Probe Reveals ‘Doctor Module’ Planned Babri Revenge Attacks
Probe uncovers plan for six blasts in Delhi-NCR on Dec 6; ‘doctor module’ linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Investigators probing the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort say they have uncovered a broader terror plot: a suspected module — reportedly made up of medical professionals and linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind — had planned coordinated blasts at six to seven locations across the Delhi-NCR region on December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition.
According to intelligence sources, those arrested told interrogators the date was chosen to “avenge the Babri Masjid demolition.” Authorities say the group had prepared a detailed five-phase plan to execute serial attacks:
Phase 1: Formation of the module with alleged links to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
Phase 2: Procurement of raw materials and ammunition from Nuh and Gurugram (Haryana).
Phase 3: Manufacture of chemical/IED devices and target reconnaissance.
Phase 4: Distribution of assembled devices among operatives.
Phase 5: Execution of simultaneous blasts across multiple locations in the NCR.
Officials said the attack was originally slated for August but was postponed because of operational delays. The probe indicates the Red Fort explosion occurred prematurely after some members were arrested.
Seizures and arrests
Raids in Faridabad recovered about 2,900 kg of suspected explosive material (ammonium nitrate), according to police sources. Three suspects have been named in investigative reports: Dr Umar Mohammed (alias Umar un-Nabi) — the driver of the car that exploded near Red Fort Metro station — and doctors Muzammil Sheikh and Shaheen Saeed, who were arrested in connection with the raids. Investigators say the suspects are alleged to have played roles in procuring and assembling explosives.
Investigative response
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell are jointly probing the matter, focusing on the module’s financing, communications, supply chains and any external handlers. Security agencies have increased surveillance and issued warnings about the possibility of other active cells.
Officials caution that while the Red Fort blast resulted in casualties and injuries, it may have been an isolated detonation triggered by panic after arrests — and that the larger planned strike was disrupted by the crackdown. The probe is ongoing and authorities say more details will emerge as forensic and digital examinations continue.
