Slain Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar’s Widow Reportedly Smuggled Out of Gaza, Remarried in Turkey
Samar Abu Zamer, the widow of slain Hamas military leader Yahya Sinwar, was reportedly smuggled out of Gaza and has since remarried in Turkey, according to a report by Israeli news outlet Ynet.
Abu Zamer is said to have escaped the enclave through the Rafah border into Egypt using forged documents. The operation allegedly involved high-level coordination, substantial funding, and logistical support. Her remarriage in Turkey was reportedly arranged by senior Hamas political bureau member Fathi Hammad.
In January, the Israeli military released footage showing Abu Zamer and her children entering a Hamas tunnel, sparking speculation that she had gone into hiding. However, sources later told Ynet that she had already left Gaza by that time and was living in Turkey under a new identity.
“She crossed the border with a fake passport,” one source was quoted as saying. “The escape required resources that ordinary Gazans simply don’t have.”
Abu Zamer previously came under fire after a video surfaced showing her in a Hamas tunnel carrying a luxury Hermes Birkin handbag, drawing widespread criticism on social media.
Her reported remarriage came just months after Yahya Sinwar was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Other Commanders’ Families Also Missing
The report also highlighted the disappearance of Najwa Sinwar, wife of Muhammad Sinwar—Yahya’s brother—who was also killed by Israeli forces. Her current whereabouts remain unknown, but Israeli security sources claim she too crossed into Egypt before her husband’s death.
Despite the reports, Hamas has not issued any official confirmation regarding the departures of the two women.
Growing Resentment in Gaza
The revelations have fueled public resentment among Gaza residents. “They send their children to Turkey and Qatar, while ours are sent to die,” one survivor of recent Israeli bombings told Ynet. “How are they any different from corrupt Arab regimes? They protect themselves and abandon us.”
Claims of Secret Evacuation Network
Regional observers cited in the report suggest Hamas has long operated a covert network designed to evacuate the families of its senior leaders during conflict. The alleged system involves fake documents, medical cover stories, and coordination with sympathetic diplomatic missions.
Neither Turkish authorities nor Hamas have publicly responded to the latest claims.
