A day after her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal was postponed indefinitely, Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana removed all wedding-related posts from her social media accounts, shifting attention from celebration to concern.
The ceremony, originally set for Sunday in Mandhana’s hometown of Sangli, was called off after her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden health scare. According to her manager Tuhin Mishra, he showed symptoms of a possible heart issue early Sunday morning and was rushed to hospital, where he remains under observation.
“Smriti is clear — her father’s health comes first. She will marry only once he recovers,” Mishra said, requesting privacy for the family.
Pre-wedding festivities, including Mehendi, Haldi, and Sangeet, had already taken place. Several of Mandhana’s India teammates — Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde, and Richa Ghosh — attended the celebrations, which featured a friendly “Bride Team vs Groom Team” cricket match and dance performances that fans had shared online.
Following the postponement, Mandhana removed all posts and photos related to the event, including engagement and behind-the-scenes moments. Fans responded with messages of support, urging her to focus on her father’s recovery.
Muchhal had also shared glimpses of their engagement, including a proposal at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, where Mandhana had recently starred in India’s Women’s World Cup win.
