India spinner Sneh Rana credited bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi after winning the Player of the Series award in the team’s tri-series triumph in Sri Lanka.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side hammered Sri Lanka by 97 runs in the final and successfully avenged a rare loss against them in the previous fixture.

Rana continued her rich form in the final and picked 4/38 in 9.2 overs, dismissing Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, Nilakshika Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani and Malki Madara. Following another match-winning show, Rana was thrilled to bits and revealed how she worked alongside the bowling coach and stuck to pace-off deliveries and yorkers.

“I am very pleased to have contributed. Coming after so many months, I worked very hard, so I’m very grateful. The plan was simple – just stick to pace-off deliveries and yorkers. Worked with the bowling coach a lot, and it worked out. (World Cup) Very confident, especially in my team, who worked so hard and played brilliantly,” said Rana.

Rana finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tri-nation series with 15 wickets to her name from 5 matches at an average of 14 and an economy of 4.73. As a result, she registered the most wickets by an Indian women’s player in a multi-national ODI series and was deservedly adjudged Player of the Series. She registered her best figures during the second match against South Africa as she picked up her maiden five-wicket haul.

Rana registered figures of 5/43 in ten overs and triggered a dramatic collapse of the Proteas women’s batting line up, who went from 240/4 to 261 all out and set up a 15-run victory for India. The off-spinner was deservedly adjudged Player of the Match for turning the game in India’s favour. Rana also scalped 3/31 and 3/45 against Sri Lanka during the league stage.
