Spain Announces €615 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine; Sánchez Says “Your Fight Is Ours”
Spain will provide Ukraine with a new €615 million ($710 million) military aid package to bolster its defenses against Russia, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Tuesday during a joint press conference with visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Madrid.
Sánchez said the package includes about €300 million for “new defense equipment,” stressing that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “neo-imperialism” seeks to undermine the European project. “Your fight is ours,” he told Zelensky.
The announcement followed the signing of several bilateral agreements, including a joint effort to counter Russian disinformation. Earlier in the day, Sánchez and Zelensky visited the Reina Sofía Museum to view Pablo Picasso’s anti-war masterpiece Guernica. Zelensky previously compared Russia’s 2022 invasion to the 1937 bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.
Zelensky, who was in Paris on Monday, will travel to Turkiye on Wednesday for renewed peace talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff.
