Russia Blasts US, Israel Over Iran Strikes, Warns of Wider Fallout

Russia has sharply criticised the United States and Israel over their strikes on Iran, warning that the attacks have pushed the Middle East into a dangerous phase of escalation with global consequences.

In a strongly worded statement, Moscow called the strikes “unprovoked” and accused Washington and Tel Aviv of triggering an “unprecedented spiral of violence.” It said the conflict has already caused heavy casualties, widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, and disruption to global trade routes—particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The toll of victims runs into the hundreds and thousands… shipping along the Strait of Hormuz has been paralysed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov: Conflict Could Spiral Further

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov defended Tehran, saying Iran was acting in self-defence after strikes by the US and Israel on February 28. He warned that any expectation of a quick military outcome was misguided. “The longer the fighting continues, the more unpredictable the consequences will be,” Lavrov said.

He also criticised Washington for escalating tensions despite ongoing discussions around Iran’s nuclear programme.

Call for Ceasefire

Russia has urged an immediate ceasefire and called for a return to diplomatic engagement, saying it is ready to assist in mediation efforts. The warning comes as the conflict enters its third week, with continued Iranian strikes on US-linked targets and rising fears of a broader regional war.
