Supreme Court Modifies Order: Stray Dogs to Be Released After Sterilisation and Vaccination.

On Friday, the Supreme Court stayed its August 11 order and clarified that stray dogs picked up must be released back into the community after undergoing sterilisation and immunisation.

The directive applies to all stray dogs except those infected with rabies or exhibiting aggressive behaviour. The court also prohibited public feeding of stray dogs, instructing authorities to create separate designated feeding areas. Legal action may be taken against those violating the ban.

The new order was issued by a three-judge bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria, in response to pleas seeking a stay on the earlier directive passed by the Justice Pardiwala-led bench.

“After the last hearing, we have suggested some modifications,” Justice Vikram Nath noted while addressing the petitions.
