The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted protection from arrest to YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia in connection.
With multiple FIRs registered against him over crass jokes he made on comedian Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. Despite granting him relief, the top court roasted Allahbadia, for “vomiting dirt in his mind” and restrained him from doing any other shows for the time being.
A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh, hearing the plea of Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps’ to club the FIRs filed in Mumbai, Guwahati and Jaipur, said such behaviour had to be condemned despite being popular. It said that Allahbadia’s obscene remarks showed his “pervert” mind that made the entire society feel ashamed.
The Supreme Court also issued notice to the Centre and the governments of Maharashtra and Assam. It also said that Allahbadia could approach the police in Maharashtra and Assam to seek protection for him and his family in case of any threats.
The court also said that no FIRs would be filed against him on the same set of allegations and asked Allahbadia to join the probe and not leave the country without permission.
