The 72-year-old self-styled tantrik arrested in connection with the deaths of three people found inside a car near northwest Delhi’s Peeragarhi Flyover has previously been named as the main accused in at least two murder cases in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, investigators said on Wednesday. Officials added that the earlier cases allegedly involved a similar modus operandi.

Police identified the accused as Kamruddin, also known as “Baba.” Although he was arrested in both earlier cases, he later secured bail. At the time of the Delhi incident, he was reportedly out on bail in a 2025 murder case registered in Uttar Pradesh. Investigators said they are also probing possible links to other similar cases.

“Our investigation so far indicates Kamruddin’s involvement in multiple cases of a similar nature. We have accessed details of two incidents and are working to gather information on others,” said Sachin Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer).

According to officers, Kamruddin was last arrested in 2025 by Uttar Pradesh Police in Firozabad district. The case, initially registered as abetment of suicide and poisoning at Makkhanpur police station, was later converted to charges of murder and poisoning. He was chargesheeted and subsequently released on bail.

During a search of Kamruddin’s residence in Loni, Delhi Police recovered visiting cards claiming he could cure ailments through “divine powers.” A mazar (shrine) was also found within the premises, officials said.

A copy of the FIR filed at Makkhanpur police station on May 13, 2025, alleged that two men died after being poisoned. The complainant accused Kamruddin of luring the victims with promises of recovering “hidden treasure” through tantric rituals and taking money from them. The complaint stated that the men were called to his house on the pretext of performing rituals and were allegedly prevented from leaving. Their bodies were discovered the following morning at an open site, with items including glasses, sweets, and a lemon found nearby.

In another case dating back to February 2014, registered at Raja Khera police station in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, Kamruddin was accused of kidnapping and murdering a woman. Investigators said she had reportedly approached him seeking help to conceive a child, which he allegedly promised through tantric practices.

Police said they are now revisiting details of the earlier cases while continuing the investigation into the Peeragarhi deaths.
