Taylor Fritz Secures Third Laver Cup Title as Team World Triumphs Over Europe

American star Taylor Fritz delivered the decisive blow for Team World, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to clinch their third Laver Cup title on Sunday, September 21, in San Francisco. Fritz, the tournament’s most consistent player, sealed victory with a backhand volley winner on his first match point, sending teammates and captain Andre Agassi into celebration at the Chase Center.

Fritz dominated the opening set against a fatigued Zverev. In the second, Zverev rallied, leveling at 4-4 and pushing the match to a tiebreak. Fritz held his composure, winning four of the final five points to close out the match. The win sparked jubilant celebrations, with Fritz being mobbed by teammates as Roger Federer applauded from the stands.

Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz, fresh from his sixth US Open title, kept Europe’s title defence alive with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Francisco Cerundolo, and he teamed with Casper Ruud for a 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 doubles victory against Reilly Opelka and Alex Michelsen.

Fritz’s heroics ensured Team World’s emphatic triumph, cementing their dominance in this year’s Laver Cup.
