Tesla Enters Indian Market with Mumbai Showroom; Model Y Prices Start at ₹60 Lakh
EV giant opens doors at BKC, unveils full pricing; first batch imported from Shanghai

Tesla has officially made its retail debut in India with the launch of its first showroom at Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Tuesday. This marks the electric vehicle (EV) pioneer’s first physical presence in the Indian consumer market.

Model Y SUV Kicks Off India Lineup
Tesla’s India entry begins with the Model Y, which will be sold as a completely built unit (CBU). Prices start at:

Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive – ₹60 lakh

Model Y Long Range – ₹68 lakh

The higher-than-global pricing is due to India’s steep import duties. In comparison, the Model Y starts at approx. ₹37 lakh ($44,990) in the U.S. and around ₹30 lakh in China.

The cars are being imported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, which supplies most international markets. Six units have arrived for display and test drives in Mumbai.

Superchargers and Service Readiness
Alongside vehicles, Tesla has also imported Supercharger stations and accessories worth nearly $1 million, mainly from the U.S. and China. Charging infrastructure is expected to be installed across Mumbai soon.

To support after-sales service, a Tesla service centre is being set up in Kurla West. The company also maintains a registered office in Bengaluru and an engineering base in Pune.

More to Come
The Mumbai showroom will serve as Tesla’s customer experience hub, offering walk-ins a firsthand look at its EV tech. Depending on the response, Tesla is likely to expand to other metro cities.

Ahead of the launch, Tesla teased its India arrival with a social media post from its India-specific handle, stating: “Coming soon” — hinting at a broader rollout through 2025.
