‘Not an Era of War’: PM Modi, Cyprus President Call for Peace Amid West Asia Turmoil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged peace in conflict-ridden West Asia during his bilateral meeting with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, underscoring that “this is not an era of war.” The statement, echoing Modi’s earlier message to global leaders, comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
Speaking in Nicosia during his first overseas visit since Operation Sindoor was launched, PM Modi also thanked Cyprus for its continued support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.
“We deeply appreciate Cyprus’s consistent support on this issue. To combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling, our security agencies will work to set up a mechanism for real-time intelligence sharing,” Modi said, in what is widely interpreted as a veiled reference to Pakistan.
The two leaders discussed a range of global challenges, including regional security, economic cooperation, and climate action. Cyprus and India are also working to deepen collaboration in areas like fintech, shipping, and education.
The visit comes as India recalibrates its foreign policy engagements with Mediterranean and European partners amid growing geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
