Three Indians Abducted by Al-Qaeda-Linked Militants in Mali; India Seeks Swift Release.

Three Indian nationals working at a cement factory in Mali were abducted by terrorists linked to the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), officials confirmed on Thursday. The kidnapping occurred on July 1, during a coordinated attack on the Diamond Cement Factory located in the Kayes region of western Mali.

According to local reports, heavily armed assailants stormed the facility and forcibly took the Indian workers hostage. While no group has formally claimed responsibility, authorities suspect the involvement of JNIM, a group known for orchestrating numerous attacks across the Sahel region.

India Condemns Act, Urges Mali to Act Promptly
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong statement condemning the abduction, calling it a “deplorable act of violence.” The ministry urged the Malian government to take “urgent and decisive steps” to ensure the safe and early return of the hostages.

“The Government of India unequivocally condemns this act and calls upon the Government of the Republic of Mali to ensure the safe and expeditious release of our nationals,” the MEA said.

Embassy Actively Engaged
The Indian Embassy in Bamako is in continuous contact with Malian authorities, local law enforcement agencies, and the management of the Diamond Cement Factory. Senior officials at the MEA are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with the families of the kidnapped individuals.

The ministry assured that all diplomatic channels are being utilized to facilitate their release. “Our mission is in close and constant touch with all stakeholders. Every effort is being made to bring our nationals back safely,” it said.

Caution Advisory Issued for Indians in Mali
In light of the situation, the MEA has issued an advisory to all Indian nationals residing in Mali, urging them to remain vigilant, limit non-essential travel, and stay in regular contact with the Indian Embassy for updates and support.

This latest incident reflects the ongoing instability in parts of Mali, where extremist groups continue to pose a threat to local and foreign personnel. The Indian government reiterated its full commitment to ensuring the hostages’ safe return and extended its support to the affected families.
