Three Indian-origin truck drivers have been arrested in connection with a shooting involving rival tow-truck groups in Canada, police said. The incident took place late on October 7 in Brampton, Ontario.

Peel Regional Police said the shooting occurred around 10.45 pm in a parking lot near McVean Drive and Castlemore Road after a confrontation between two groups escalated. Multiple shots were fired during the altercation.

One person was injured, though the injuries were not life-threatening, police said. Emergency services responded to the scene, which was secured for investigation. Authorities said the shooting was linked to an ongoing dispute between rival tow-truck operators, an issue that has raised safety concerns in parts of the Greater Toronto Area.

Arrests and charges

After several weeks of investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Caledon on November 20 and arrested three individuals. The accused were identified as Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti. Police said all three are truck drivers of Indian origin. A fourth suspect, believed to have fired the gun, remains at large.

Manjot Bhatti faces charges including reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of an unauthorised firearm. He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti are accused of travelling in a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present. Both were released on undertakings and are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Fourth suspect sought

Police are continuing to search for the fourth suspect seen firing the weapon in video footage released by investigators. He has been described as a South Asian male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white running shoes. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact police.
