7 Students Dead, Over 15 Injured as School Roof Collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar.
A tragic incident unfolded on Friday morning when the roof of a primary school building collapsed in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, killing seven students and injuring more than 15 others. The collapse occurred while classes were underway at the Piplodi Primary School.
According to officials, the school building was around 20 years old and had a roof made of heavy stone slabs, which intensified the impact of the collapse. The victims were students of Class 7, aged between 12 and 14.
Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar said, “Four children have died, and 17 others are injured. Ten have been referred to Jhalawar Hospital, of whom three to four are in critical condition.”
Rescue efforts were launched swiftly, with police, local residents, and administrative officials working together to pull students from the rubble.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the tragedy, calling it “deeply saddening.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
“The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma called the incident “extremely heartbreaking” and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
“May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this sorrow,” he said in a statement.
Education Minister Madan Dilawar has announced a high-level inquiry into the incident to determine the cause and fix accountability. The tragedy has sparked questions about infrastructure safety in government-run schools, especially in older buildings.
