Trump Praises Modi, Acknowledges Shehbaz Sharif at Gaza Peace Summit.

US President Donald Trump on Monday called India “a great country with a very good friend” while speaking at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Turning to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who stood behind him, Trump quipped, “He is going to help make that happen, right?” — prompting smiles and laughter.

Trump expressed hope that India and Pakistan would “live very nicely together” and commended Pakistan’s military leadership, emphasizing that regional peace depends on “good friends doing good things.” Sharif, speaking after Trump, thanked him for preventing a potential nuclear escalation between India and Pakistan. “Had it not been for this gentleman and his team, the war could have escalated to unimaginable levels,” he said.

India was represented by MoS for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, acting as PM Narendra Modi’s special envoy. Modi also praised Trump’s peace efforts in Gaza and welcomed the release of 20 hostages held by Hamas for over two years.

The summit concluded with Trump signing a landmark ceasefire document alongside leaders from across the Arab and Muslim world, calling it a “new and beautiful day” for the region after years of conflict.
