Trump calls tariff opponents “fools,” unveils $2,000 dividend plan for Americans

US President Donald Trump on Sunday doubled down on his tariff strategy, announcing plans to give every American at least $2,000 — excluding the wealthy — from revenue collected through his trade policies.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump attacked critics of tariffs, calling them “FOOLS,” and praised the US economy as “the richest, most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation, and a record stock market.” According to Trump, tariffs have generated trillions of dollars, which will be used both to reduce the $37 trillion national debt and to provide a direct dividend to Americans. However, he did not specify how or when the $2,000 payouts would be distributed.

Trump also highlighted what he described as record economic achievements, including historically high 401(k) balances and the rise of domestic manufacturing facilities.

The announcement coincides with ongoing legal challenges. The Supreme Court is reviewing cases questioning whether Trump exceeded his executive authority in imposing broad tariffs on imports from nearly all major trading partners. Trump has dismissed such scrutiny, emphasizing that tariffs are his strongest tool to boost the US economy.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has previously indicated that tariff revenue would be used to pay down the national debt, a plan reinforced by Trump’s latest statements. While the $2,000 dividend has generated significant attention, key details on its rollout remain unclear, leaving investors and citizens awaiting further guidance.
