Trump Cuts G7 Visit Short, Urges Immediate Evacuation of Tehran Amid Iran-Israel Tensions.
U.S. President Donald Trump has abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada, citing escalating tensions in the Middle East. The White House confirmed on Monday that Trump departed after dinner with world leaders, skipping the final day of discussions in Kananaskis, Alberta.
“Much was accomplished, but due to developments in the Middle East, President Trump will leave tonight,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on X., Trump Warns Tehran Residents to Evacuate
In a dramatic post on Truth Social, Trump warned:
“Iran should have signed the deal I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CANNOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
The post added to growing speculation about a possible military escalation in the region.
Trump Refuses to Back G7 Statement on Iran
A senior U.S. official confirmed that President Trump will not sign a proposed joint G7 statement calling for a de-escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict. Despite Trump’s refusal, French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that Washington had made an informal offer for a ceasefire between the two rivals.
“There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange… to secure a ceasefire and launch broader discussions,” Macron told reporters on Monday.
The G7 summit has faced internal divisions over multiple global crises, including Russia’s war in Ukraine and unrest in the Middle East. Several key declarations on issues such as artificial intelligence and global trade have reportedly stalled without U.S. backing.
Pentagon Confirms Trump Still Pursuing Iran Nuclear Deal
Despite the heightened rhetoric, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Fox News that Trump remains committed to achieving a nuclear deal with Iran. “Of course,” Hegseth said when asked if Trump still wants a deal.
“Our forces are positioned defensively, and the aim remains a peaceful resolution.”
A White House official also clarified that the U.S. is not currently launching strikes on Iran, easing fears of immediate military confrontation. Trump’s early departure from the summit and his stark message on Tehran underscore Washington’s hardening stance on Iran, while also reflecting the deep fractures within the G7 alliance over how to handle the crisis.
