US President Donald Trump said his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska were “extremely productive,” with “many points agreed” and only a “few issues” left unresolved.
He emphasized, however, that “there’s no deal until there’s a deal,” referring to a possible resolution of the Ukraine conflict. The over three-hour summit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage was described as “mutually respectful.” Trump noted that while progress has been made, a final agreement has yet to be reached.
Putin stressed Russia’s interest in ending the war but said any lasting settlement must address the “primary roots and causes” of the conflict. “Everything that’s happening is a tragedy,” he said, adding that the situation in Ukraine involves “fundamental threats to our security.”
As the meeting concluded, Trump hinted at a follow-up session, to which Putin responded, “Next time in Moscow.”
