Trump Accepts Machado’s Nobel Medal, Claims He ‘Ended Eight Wars’

Former U.S. President Donald Trump defended accepting Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado’s Nobel Peace Prize medal, saying simply, “She offered it to me.” Trump attributed the gesture to his alleged role in “ending eight wars,” calling Machado a “very fine woman” and praising her act as “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”

Machado presented her 2025 Nobel medal to Trump at a White House meeting, describing it as recognition of his “unique commitment to Venezuela’s freedom.” She told supporters outside the White House that “we can count on President Trump,” prompting chants of “Thank you, Trump.”

The Norwegian Nobel Committee clarified that the Peace Prize cannot be transferred or shared. While a laureate may give away the physical medal, the official award and recognition remain permanently with the original recipient. The Committee also noted there are no restrictions on what a laureate may do with the medal, diploma, or prize money.
