Trump Rules Out Ukraine Ceasefire, Calls for Direct Peace Agreement After Alaska Talks.

US President Donald Trump said his late-night call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “went very well” following his high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Trump ruled out an immediate ceasefire, instead advocating a direct “peace agreement” to formally end the war.

Zelenskyy described the discussion as “long and substantive” and expressed support for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia. The conversation began as a one-on-one call before European leaders joined.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late-night call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO.”

Trump emphasized that a full peace deal, rather than a temporary ceasefire, would be the most effective way to end the “horrific war” and save lives. He confirmed that Zelenskyy will visit Washington, DC, on Monday, with a potential trilateral meeting with Putin in the works.

Trump described his meeting with Putin as “extremely productive” and rated it “10 out of 10,” though some minor issues remain. He added that he would advise Zelenskyy to agree to a peace deal, noting that Ukraine must eventually negotiate terms.

Zelenskyy said his upcoming US visit will focus on ending the war and ensuring security guarantees with US and European support. He thanked international partners for their coordination and assistance.

During Zelenskyy’s previous visit to the White House, tensions had flared when Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized him over the war, accusing him of showing insufficient gratitude after questioning diplomatic approaches with Russia.
