Trump Shares ‘Restraining Order Needed’ Image in Fresh Dig at Italy’s Giorgia Meloni
US President Donald Trump has taken another swipe at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, sharing an image on his Truth Social platform carrying the caption, “Restraining Order Needed,” days before the NATO Summit.
The image showed Trump standing in front of Meloni, who appeared to be smiling while looking in his direction. The caption implied that the Italian leader was overly eager to be around the US president, adding a fresh twist to an increasingly public exchange between the two leaders.
Feud Began After G7 Summit
The latest post follows remarks Trump made after last month’s G7 Summit, where he claimed Meloni had repeatedly sought a photograph with him.
Trump alleged that the Italian prime minister had “begged” to be photographed alongside him and suggested she was delighted by their interaction. The comments triggered a political row in Italy and prompted criticism from members of Meloni’s administration.
Meloni Hits Back
Meloni swiftly rejected Trump’s claims, calling them “completely fabricated.”
“Neither I nor Italy ever beg,” she said, insisting that Italy’s foreign policy is guided solely by the country’s national interests rather than personal relationships with world leaders.
The Italian prime minister also sought to downplay the controversy, saying cooperation among Western allies remained more important than personal disagreements.
Spotlight on NATO Summit
Trump’s latest social media post comes just ahead of this week’s NATO Summit, where both leaders are expected to attend.
Neither Trump nor Meloni has publicly commented further on the post. However, it marks the latest public jab in an unusual exchange between two leaders who have often been viewed as ideological allies, placing renewed attention on their relationship ahead of a key gathering of NATO members.
