Trump Says Greenland Issue Will ‘Work Out’ After Denmark Talks Fail to Shift US Stance.

US President Donald Trump signaled on Wednesday that a resolution on Greenland “will work out,” following a White House meeting with Denmark and Greenland’s foreign ministers. The discussions, requested by the Danish and Greenlandic officials to clear up “misunderstandings” after Trump’s earlier comments on acquiring the island, also included Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump, speaking after the meeting—which he did not attend—acknowledged Denmark’s interests but reiterated that no options were off the table. “I have a very good relationship with Denmark, and we’ll see how it all works out. I think something will work out,” he said. He also noted that Denmark would have limited power if Russia or China acted in Greenland, but added, “There’s everything we can do.”

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stressed that a US takeover was unnecessary. “We didn’t manage to change the American position. It’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering Greenland,” he said. Rasmussen described the talks as “constructive” and said a joint committee will meet in the coming weeks to explore potential progress.

The White House also posted a satirical illustration on X showing two dogsleds—one heading to the US flag, the other to Russian and Chinese flags—highlighting the strategic importance of Greenland. Denmark has pledged to boost its military presence on the island, while Germany and France announced plans to send troops in support.

Locals in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, and in Copenhagen expressed relief that dialogue is now taking place directly. “I am more calm now, and I feel more safe,” said Nuuk resident Ivaana Egede Larsen. Copenhagen resident Thomas Fallesen added, “They are at least talking together instead of through the press. It’s very positive.”

The meeting comes amid Trump’s ongoing assertive foreign policy moves and underscores Greenland’s growing strategic significance in global geopolitics.
