Kremlin: Ukraine Talks With US ‘Useful’ but No Territorial Deal Yet
The Kremlin on Wednesday said no compromise on territorial issues was reached after Russian President Vladimir Putin held nearly five hours of talks with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow.
Russian officials described the discussions as “useful” and focused on possible steps to end the war in Ukraine, Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II, but emphasized that “a lot of work” remains before any agreement can be finalized.
State news agency RIA reported that Witkoff immediately visited the US embassy in Moscow after the talks, while Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev called the meeting “productive” on X.
During the session, Putin criticized Ukraine’s European backers, accusing them of altering peace proposals with “demands that are absolutely unacceptable to Russia,” which he said has “blocked the entire peace process” while blaming Moscow.
