Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi have wrapped up filming the Lucknow schedule of their upcoming feature film Umar Qaid and have now moved to Bhopal for the next phase of production.
The team is currently shooting a crucial jail sequence in Madhya Pradesh. Directed by writer-turned-filmmaker Vinay Chhawal, the film also stars Priyamani, Faisal Malik and Manav Vij, who plays a police officer. Line producer Gyanendra Singh confirmed that the Lucknow leg has concluded, with the cast and crew spending nearly a month in the city from November 30 to December 25.
While the jail sequence was originally planned to be shot in Uttar Pradesh, the production had to revise its plans. “The jail sequence was scheduled at Barabanki prison—where Gadar 2 was filmed—but it could not be executed there. The team has now shifted to Bhopal, where filming will continue until January 1,” a source said.
During the Lucknow schedule, the makers shot extensively across Malihabad and several prominent locations, including Qaiserbagh, Chowk, Naka Hindola, the Hussainabad heritage zone and Mehmudabad Palace. The production maintained tight security and largely kept the shoot under wraps.
“The secrecy was maintained until portions were filmed at Rumi Gate and the Clock Tower for a mela sequence. Some local influencers recorded videos and shared them on social media, but a few of those clips were later taken down,” the source added.
Umar Qaid is produced by Academy Award-winning producer Guneet Monga under her banner Sikhya Entertainment, which has previously filmed projects such as Pagglait in Lucknow. Director Vinay Chhawal is best known for writing Angrezi Medium, Looop Lapeta and Zindagi inShort, along with the OTT series Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side.
Both Siddiqui and Qureshi have a long association with Lucknow as a shooting destination. The duo, who rose to prominence with Gangs of Wasseypur 2, have returned to the city multiple times for film projects. Huma Qureshi has previously shot Jolly LLB 2 and Single Salmaa in Lucknow, while Siddiqui has filmed titles such as Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, Raat Akeli Hai, Jogira Sara Ra Ra! and the recent OTT release Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders.
