Cierra Ortega’s Parents Speak Out After Love Island USA Exit: ‘What’s Happening Online Is Uncalled For.’

Cierra Ortega’s parents have released a statement responding to the intense online backlash following their daughter’s abrupt departure from Love Island USA Season 7, after resurfaced social media posts showed her using racist language, including an anti-Asian slur.

In Episode 30, host Iain Stirling announced that Ortega had “left the villa due to a personal reason.” No further explanation was provided on-air, but multiple reports later confirmed the exit was directly linked to the controversy.

‘We’re Not Justifying, But the Hate Has Gone Too Far’
In an emotional message posted on Sunday, Ortega’s parents acknowledged the seriousness of what had surfaced, but called out the threats and harassment directed at their daughter and those close to her.

“This has been one of the most painful weeks of our lives,” the statement read. “We’ve seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt and the hate. While Cierra hasn’t seen any of it yet, we have. And so have the people who love her.”

“We’re not here to justify or ignore what’s come to light,” they continued. “We understand why people are upset. But what’s happening online now — the threats, the cruelty, the attacks on her friends and supporters — it’s heartbreaking. It’s uncalled for. No one deserves that kind of hate, no matter the mistake.”

‘She’ll Take Responsibility — In Her Own Time’
Cierra, who has been in isolation since leaving the show, has not yet responded publicly to the incident. Her parents said they trust she will address it directly when ready.

“We know our daughter. We know her heart,” they wrote. “And when she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth, and grace.”

They concluded with a request for empathy:

“We’re asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency — not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this. Thank you to those who’ve continued to show love, even when it’s not easy.”

Cierra Ortega’s exit has reignited debate around accountability, cancel culture, and how far online reactions should go in holding public figures responsible for past behavior.
