World Champion Deepti Sharma Felicitated at UP Police Headquarters in Lucknow.
Deepti Sharma, Player of the Tournament in India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup triumph, was felicitated on Friday at the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Gomtinagar Extension, Lucknow. The ceremony marked her formal induction as a Deputy Superintendent of Police under the state’s sports quota.
DGP Rajeev Krishna, along with senior officials, praised Deepti for bringing glory to Uttar Pradesh and the police force. “Deepti Sharma has made the country proud and inspired countless young athletes, especially girls, across the state,” he said, highlighting her contribution to Indian cricket’s growing legacy.
Krishna also applauded the state government’s initiatives under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to induct top athletes into the police force, emphasizing that qualities like discipline, dedication, and hard work—hallmarks of international sports—also define policing excellence.
Deepti Sharma expressed pride and gratitude at the ceremony, calling her induction a “dream come true” for her family. She thanked her elder brother, Sumit Sharma, for his constant support and appreciated policies that provide career opportunities and financial assistance to athletes. She described the moment of wearing her police uniform and meeting senior officers as “unforgettable.”
The felicitation event was attended by DG Training Rajeev Sabharwal, DG Cyber Crime/CB-CID Vinod Kumar Singh, and ADG Law & Order Amitabh Yash. Earlier, Deepti also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, underscoring the state’s commitment to promoting sports.
Separately, Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna noted that the state Cabinet had passed resolutions congratulating the Indian women’s cricket team on their maiden World Cup victory, giving special recognition to Deepti Sharma for her pivotal role in the campaign.
