US Lawmakers Push Resolution to End Trump-Era 50% Tariffs on India.

Three U.S. lawmakers—Representatives Deborah Ross, Marc Veasey, and Raja Krishnamoorthi—on Friday introduced a resolution seeking to end the punitive tariffs of up to 50% on imports from India. The move reflects growing congressional concern over trade measures critics call economically harmful and legally questionable.

The resolution targets the additional 25% “secondary” tariffs imposed on August 27, 2025, which, combined with existing duties, raised tariffs on many Indian-origin products to 50% under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

Congresswoman Ross stressed the economic ties between North Carolina and India, noting Indian investments exceeding a billion dollars and thousands of jobs created, while local exports to India reach hundreds of millions annually.

Rep. Veasey called the tariffs “a tax on everyday Americans,” and Rep. Krishnamoorthi warned they disrupt supply chains, hurt U.S. workers, and raise costs for consumers, adding that ending the tariffs would strengthen U.S.-India economic and strategic cooperation.

The resolution forms part of a broader Democratic push to curb Trump’s unilateral trade actions and restore strong U.S.-India relations.
