US-Iran war LIVE: Fresh talks likely Thursday in Geneva or Pakistan, says report

Talks in Islamabad between the United States and Iran ended without a deal, with reports pointing to a key disagreement over the suspension of Iran’s nuclear activity.

According to reports, Washington proposed a 20-year suspension, while Tehran countered with a five-year pause—an issue that has previously stalled negotiations, including earlier talks in Geneva. That earlier deadlock was followed by joint US-Israel strikes on Iran, escalating tensions in the region.

Despite the setback, both sides appear open to further dialogue. Fresh talks could take place later this week, possibly in Geneva or Pakistan. Donald Trump said outreach for a deal had been made, while Iran signalled conditional willingness to return to negotiations, rejecting what it termed “unlawful demands.”

Meanwhile, tensions remain high on the ground. Shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted, with reports of halted or diverted vessels following the US announcement of a blockade.

On the military front, the US has maintained a significant naval presence in the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln along with multiple destroyers and amphibious ships, though officials have provided limited details on how the blockade would be enforced.

With both diplomacy and military posturing continuing, the situation remains fluid as efforts to revive negotiations move forward.
