Cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli and Rudraprayag Leaves Several Missing, Rescue Operations Underway.
A sudden cloudburst hit Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts, leaving multiple people missing, several injured, and families trapped under debris.
In Dewal’s Mopata area, Tara Singh and his wife are missing, while Vikram Singh and his wife were injured. Their cowshed collapsed, burying around 15–20 animals. In Rudraprayag, six more people remain unaccounted for as water levels rise in the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. A bridge in Kedarnath valley’s Lawara village was swept away, and conditions in Chenagad have turned critical. Rising river waters have flooded residential areas, including the Hanuman temple in Rudraprayag, forcing evacuations.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief on X and said, “Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing. I am in constant touch with officials and have given instructions for effective rescue efforts.”
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Prateek Jain told Aaj Tak that four houses were washed away in Basukedar but confirmed that all residents were safely evacuated.
The heavy rainfall has also blocked the Haldwani–Bhimtal road near Rani Bagh bridge due to debris, disrupting traffic. Schools across Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Haridwar, and Pithoragarh remain closed today as a precaution.
