Karnataka suspends DGP-rank officer Ramachandra Rao over viral video.
The Karnataka government on Tuesday suspended senior police officer Ramachandra Rao, after a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing him in intimate moments with multiple women inside his office.
The decision came amid public outrage and controversy over the officer’s conduct. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was reportedly briefed on the matter on Monday and ordered Rao’s suspension the following day. Sources say the Chief Minister was angered after viewing the footage and demanded an explanation for how such an incident could occur within the police establishment.
The video, which went viral, allegedly shows Rao hugging and kissing women while in uniform during office hours. Sources added that the recordings appear to have been secretly made inside the DGP’s office, with women visiting on different occasions in varied attire.
Rao has denied the allegations, calling the video “fabricated and false.” He claimed the footage was morphed and targeted at him, adding that he was posted in Belagavi eight years ago and that a proper investigation is needed to determine the facts.
Despite meeting the Home Minister to discuss the matter, Rao’s suspension was enforced by the state administration. The incident has also sparked political pressure on the ruling Congress government, with opposition parties demanding a formal inquiry.
