Vassishta Reveals Vishwambhara’s Cosmic Setting: Chiranjeevi’s Film to Explore Satya Lokam in Hindu Cosmology.
Director Vassishta has finally lifted the veil on the much-speculated story of his upcoming fantasy epic Vishwambhara, starring Chiranjeevi, Trisha Krishnan, Kunal Kapoor, and Ashika Ranganath. In a recent interview with Gulte, the filmmaker disclosed that the story is rooted in Hindu cosmology and unfolds in Satya Lokam—the highest of the 14 lokas (realms) in Hindu belief, said to be the abode of Lord Brahma.
Vassishta explained, “There are 14 lokas, with seven above and seven below. While other films have touched upon realms like Yama Lokam or Svarga Lokam, Vishwambhara is set in Satya Lokam. I wanted to explore a realm that hasn’t been depicted much in cinema.”
The director dismissed speculation that Vishwambhara is connected to Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari or Bhairava Dweepam, citing them as inspirations only in spirit. “Like in Avatar or Patala Bhairavi, most fantasy films revolve around a hero traveling between worlds to retrieve something or someone. Vishwambhara is in the same genre—it’s about a hero who ventures across worlds to rescue the heroine, echoing the journey of Rama for Sita.”
The film is being compared to other grand-scale fantasy ventures but aims to carve its own identity by delving into lesser-known mythological concepts. The 14-world framework referenced by Vassishta originates from Hindu scriptures like the Atharvaveda and Puranas, where the higher realms include Bhu, Bhuvar, Svar, Mahar, Jana, Tapa, and Satya; and the lower ones include Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Talatala, Mahatala, Rasatala, and Patala.
With mythology, cosmic travel, and a hero’s quest at its core, Vishwambhara is shaping up to be a high-concept fantasy adventure rooted deeply in Indian tradition. Its release date is yet to be officially announced.
