Kalyani Priyadarshan Hails Lokah Chapter 1 as Historic ₹300 Crore Blockbuster.
Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has made history as the first Malayalam film to cross the ₹300 crore mark at the global box office. The superhero film, directed by Dominic Arun, has become a massive hit, and Kalyani expressed her excitement and gratitude on Instagram.
Sharing a poster of the film with “300 crore GBOC” highlighted, she wrote, “Everyone who stood behind, beside and in front of the camera, and everyone who filled the theatres… We made history. Beyond grateful.”
About the Film
Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, the movie stars Kalyani as Chandra, a mysterious woman who gets entangled with a gang involved in organ trafficking in Bangalore. The cast also includes Naslen, Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, and Chandu Salim Kumar. Released during the Onam season on August 28, the film quickly became a nationwide sensation.
Lokah Chapter 1 has now surpassed the collections of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan (₹265.5 crore), Soubin Shahir’s Manjummel Boys (₹240 crore), and Mohanlal’s Thudarum (₹234.5 crore).
Sequel in the Works
Following the blockbuster success, Lokah Chapter 2 has been announced, featuring Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan. A teaser titled “When Legends Chill” introduces Tovino as Michael/Chathan and Dulquer as Charlie/Odiyan.
