Smriti Mandhana Confirms Wedding With Palash Muchhal Called Off.

India cricketer Smriti Mandhana on Saturday confirmed that her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal has been called off, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the couple. In a statement shared on Instagram, Mandhana said both families had mutually decided to cancel the ceremony.

“Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time,” she wrote. “I am a very private person… but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”

Mandhana urged the public to respect the privacy of both families, saying she wished to “close this matter here” and move forward at her own pace. She also reiterated her commitment to cricket, saying her focus “will forever be on representing India at the highest level.”

How the Wedding Unravelled

The Mandhana–Muchhal wedding had been set for November 23, 2025, in Sangli and was expected to be a high-profile event months after India’s Women’s World Cup victory. The couple had exchanged rings earlier this year after Muchhal surprised Mandhana with a proposal at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, the venue of the World Cup final.

However, the ceremony was indefinitely postponed after a medical emergency struck Mandhana’s father on the morning of the wedding. Soon after, Muchhal also required hospital attention due to severe stress. With both families dealing with simultaneous crises, the event was put on hold.

In the absence of an official update, rumours spiralled online — including accusations of infidelity against Muchhal, which his family dismissed as completely false and defamatory. India teammates who were in Sangli for the celebrations quietly removed related posts from social media, while Jemimah Rodrigues stayed back in India, opting out of the Women’s Big Bash League to support Mandhana.

Mandhana’s statement on December 7 was her first public comment since the postponement.

Muchhal Responds With His Own Statement

Following Mandhana’s announcement, Muchhal also issued a statement saying he had “decided to move on” from the relationship. He condemned the spread of unverified gossip and said his team would pursue legal action against those circulating false and defamatory content.

“This is the most difficult phase of my life,” he wrote. “I will deal with it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs.”

Public Signs of a Breakup

Mandhana has unfollowed Muchhal on Instagram, while he continues to follow her. Fans also noted that in a December 5 promotional video — her first post after a social media break — she was not wearing her engagement ring, fuelling speculation ahead of Saturday’s announcement.

Mandhana to Refocus on Cricket

Mandhana is expected to return to routine cricketing commitments during what she acknowledged is a turbulent phase in her personal life. She will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming Women’s Premier League, starting January 9 in Navi Mumbai.
