“Where can we go?”: Israel strikes Gaza tent camp

Shortly after ending their daily fast during Ramadan, displaced Palestinians sheltering west of Gaza City said they received phone calls from individuals they believed were personnel from the Israel Defense Forces ordering them to leave the area within five minutes.

“They called us and told us to evacuate. We cannot breathe. And now they set our tents on fire. Where can we go?” said Ibtessal al-Shanbary, who fled with a backpack and the few belongings she managed to grab from her tent.

Witnesses said the Anssar camp was struck three times on Wednesday evening. The first two blasts appeared to be warning strikes, while the third was a major strike that triggered a large fire and sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
