World Travel Market Africa 2026 in South Africa focuses on global tourism, travel innovation, and responsible tourism
World Travel Market Africa 2026 opened on April 13 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, launching a three-day showcase focused on innovation, sustainability, and global tourism growth.
Billed as its most ambitious edition yet, the event has drawn thousands of industry professionals from around the world, with a strong emphasis on responsible tourism, market accessibility, and technological advancement. Organisers say the programme is designed to chart a future-focused roadmap for the sector while reinforcing Cape Town’s role as a key hub for travel dialogue in Africa.
A major highlight is the expanded Responsible Tourism programme, featuring dedicated sessions on wildlife tourism, anti-greenwashing efforts, and practical models for sustainable operations. The discussions will culminate in the Responsible Tourism Awards, recognising impactful initiatives across the continent.
The exhibition floor is hosting a wide range of global exhibitors and destination representatives, with structured business meetings and networking sessions aimed at driving partnerships and trade opportunities. Initiatives such as the “Waddle for a Cause” campaign supporting African penguin conservation and the Crafters Nexus marketplace further spotlight community-led tourism.
The agenda also includes high-level forums like the Africa Tourism Investment Conference and the China Ready® Workshop, alongside sessions on artificial intelligence, evolving traveller behaviour, and niche segments such as wine and experiential tourism.
With a packed schedule of networking events, awards, and industry discussions, WTM Africa 2026 continues to serve as a key platform for collaboration and growth, shaping the future of tourism across Africa and beyond.
