The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs has cautioned that the evolving situation in Bangladesh represents India’s most severe strategic challenge in the country since the 1971 Liberation War.
The panel, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, pointed to shifting political dynamics, a growing generational disconnect, and increasing external influence from China and Pakistan as key areas of concern.
The observations form part of the committee’s report on India–Bangladesh relations, which was tabled in Parliament and is based on non-official evidence and testimonies recorded during its deliberations.
